Earl Elowsky

Student Profile: Earl Elowsky

Earl Elowsky didn’t plan on taking an art class when he came to Alma, but the liberal arts education made him realize his passion.

“I was always a business major, doing some art classes here and there, which eventually led to me deciding to be an art major as well,” the East Tawas senior says.

Elowsky plans to pursue a graduate degree in ceramics and hopes to be a college professor.

“This year I have had the chance to be a student representative in the Art department,” he says. “I get to be a part of the faculty meetings and look over budgets, needs of students, facilities and basically all aspects of running a small college Art department.”

Elowsky was attracted to Alma by the friendly atmosphere. He credits his professors with his continued interest in art and growing his range and talent as an artist.

A project manager for Students in Free Enterprise, he also traveled to New York for a spring term to study contemporary art.

Many of Alma’s pre-law graduates go on to attend prestigious law schools, including 2004 graduate Jessica Karbowski, who was accepted at Yale, Stanford and Harvard law schools and is attending Yale. Colin McGlaughlin, a 20004 graduated enrolled at Case Western Reserve Law School, is the first American to intern at the International Criminal Court at The Hague in the Netherlands.

Taylor Erwin started at Alma College majoring in business administration, but decided to add an art major in the middle of her junior year.
