Alma College offers approved programs in seven different French cities. Each program has its own focus, so find one that fits your needs and your sense of adventure!

How much will it cost?

Services will vary depending on your program choice. Alma College’s Off-Campus Study Programs include tuition and pre and post advising. Additional services vary and may include room, board, excursions, transportation to and from airport or train, on-site orientations, health insurance and an International Student ID Card.

Semester Programs: You will pay published Alma College tuition, fees, room and board. If room and/or board are not provided by the program, Alma College will adjust the fees accordingly.

Summer Programs: You will pay the tuition, room, board, academic fees and a $500 summer enrollment fee.

How do I get started?

To begin the application process, visit the Academic and Career Planning Office (basement of the library). All applications are submitted to each program through the ACP Office on the student’s behalf.

Alliance Francaise in Paris or Nice, France


What can I study?

The Alliance Francaise gives you a great chance to immerse yourself in the French language. Their courses in French as a foreign language conform to the CEFR and are offered for each level. You may choose general French courses, intensive or extensive workshops, professional French courses, or evening courses. You can attend a semester long program or during the summer, choosing from one to four months of language study.

Where is the school?

Alliance Française in Paris: Located in the center of the French capital, a stone’s throw from the Latin Quarter, the Luxembourg Gardens, and Saint Germain des Prés, the Paris Alliance is truly an international meeting place.

Alliance Française in Nice: Located in the heart of the city, the Alliance Française of Nice combines cultural activities with studies, thanks to an exceptional location on the French Riviera.

Where will I live?

Housing options vary depending on location. You may choose to reside with a host family, or to live in a single or shared studio apartment, hotel, dorm or student residence.

Nantes, France



What can I study?

Study in Nantes and discover the French “art de vivre”, stay with a host family, and participate in excursions to sites like the beaches of Normandy or Mont-St. Michel.

You have the option of enrolling in courses both at the IES Center and at the Université de Nantes. You may also participate in university clubs for sports, music, dance or theater. Business and Teaching internships are also available.

The sixth largest city of France, Nantes is small enough to allow you to feel at home but large enough to be a bustling cultural and economic center. IES is the only permanent American study abroad program in Nantes, offering you ample opportunity to practice your French with the local Nantais. The IES Abroad Center occupies two floors of a 19th century residential building located just a few steps from the historic center of Nantes.

What can I study?

You can experience all that Paris has to offer through one of two unique IES Abroad Programs: The French Studies Program, or the Business and International Affairs Program. The program is entirely in Fren ch, which will allow you to further develop your language skills. You can also participate in internships for credit and are encouraged to participate in IES sponsored field-trips.

  • Four semesters of college French

What can I study?

If you have two years or more of college-level French and want to achieve fluency in the French language, this program is for you. Through a teaching internship and university classes you gain an understanding of the French people and a deeper awareness of yourself and your own culture.

American University Center of Provence in Marseille, France



What can I study?

This program allows you to combine French language with the study of both French and Arabic cultures.

Studies include Middle East area studies, immigration, inter-religious communication and cross-cultural mediation. French Practicum gives you a strong link between academic work and direct French cultural contact. In addition, travel to Tunsia in the fall and Morocco in the spring combines lectures, visits and guided encounters with local population.

What will I study?

The Aix en Provence Program focuses on French and European Studies, Literature and the Arts, and Cross-Cultural Communication. You’ll have a chance to focus on your French language skills and help French students learn English at the same time.

Where will I live?

You will live with a host family who provide partial meals.

Angers, France



What will I study?

AHA’s Angers program is ideal if you are interested in French language, history, literature, sociology, politics and culture. There is no language requirement, and course selection is based on your level of French. You can choose between a homestay or dormitory and excursions to cultural and historic sites are included.

 

Alma students can explore the environmental wonders of the Galapagos Islands, practice Spanish language skills, study Ecuadorian culture, complete coursework in business finance, and fulfill a South American internship in entrepreneurship through Alma College's one-of-a-kind partnership with Equatorialis University in Quito, Ecuador.
