Syllabus Statement on Disruptive Behavior

The following sample statement is appropriate for inclusion on a class syllabus.

Disruptive behavior by students will not be tolerated. If a student behaves in a disruptive or threatening manner, I will exercise my right to ask that individual to leave the classroom. If refused, I will exercise my right to notify Alma College Campus Security. The responding security personnel will determine whether the Alma City Police should be contacted, or whether a referral to medical or counseling staff is appropriate. If a student is perceived as a danger to him/herself or others, the Vice President of Student Life, Dr. Nicholas Piccolo, may propose an interim suspension until a hearing is held. Any student removed from class will have a right to a hearing.

The Corporation for National and Community Service named Alma College to the President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll in both 2008 and 2009 for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth.
