Advocacy and Support

Students with disabilities may face some unique challenges in college as well as challenges that are common to all students. The ACP staff are here to assist students in any way that we can. We can help with tailoring study habits to particular classes, organizing a schedule, mapping out an academic plan, talking to professors/roommates, exploring career goals, or adjusting to college life.

To set up an appointment, stop by the ACP office, give us a call at (989) 463-7247, or email Nate Payovich at payovichn@alma.edu.

There is a student-run chapter of Active Minds here at Alma College. Active Minds is a national organization dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, education, and advocacy with the aim of reducing the stigma around mental illness. For more information about the Alma chapter, please send an email to activeminds@alma.edu.

Alma College’s early acceptance agreement with the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine recognizes the College’s strengths in science and health education. The agreement reserves two admissions slots per year for Alma College pre-med graduates.

Dr. George Choksy
Departments: Economics

Associate professor of economics George Choksy doesn’t think of teaching as a job but as a calling.

“I taught at five different colleges and universities for the first ten years of my career,” he says. “I kept moving around because I knew I could do better, find a better school. When Alma and I found each other, we knew it was a marriage made in heaven.”
