Strategic Learning Class

The goal of this class is to increase understanding of the learning process and help students develop skills that can enhance performance.

This is a one-credit, seven-week class.

The class will address four main areas:

The Basics

  • availability of resources
  • adjustment to college life
  • planning/time management/organization

Strategic Learning

  • learning style
  • the learning process
  • note taking/study skills
  • test taking strategies/exam preparation

Personal Awareness

  • balancing course work, social life, and extracurricular activities
  • managing stress
  • staying healthy

Moving Forward

  • academic plan
  • career exploration
  • developing personal goals

Wright Hall, Alma’s “green” residence hall, is a modern, 60-bed apartment-style hall that features a number of environmentally friendly features, including geothermal heating and cooling, recycled-content ceiling tiles and carpeting, energy-efficient windows, rooftop solar heating panels, energy-efficient showers and washing machines, and a computerized energy monitoring system.

Mr. Murray Borrello

Mr. Murray Borrello
Departments: Environmental Studies

Murray Borrello, instructor of geology and director of the Environmental Studies Program, utilizes his interest and expertise to become involved in the community and environment surrounding him.

He has provided technical expertise to the local community in developing research and community-based policy regarding the Velsicol superfund sites in St. Louis and the Total/UDS refinery site in Alma. Along with fellow professors and community members, Borrello helped form the Pine River Superfund Citizens Task Force, the largest and most active Community Advisory Group (CAG) in the country.
