POE Profile: Cameron Ray

The Go-to Guy for Digital Media

Cameron Ray

As a student at Alma, Cameron Ray '06 was known as the go-to guy and problem solver for anything related to music technology and digital media.

Less than a year out of college, Ray took his expertise to Colorado Springs to serve as production manager for Multicast Media Network, a leading provider for Internet broadcast networks.

“He’s the Swiss Army knife for the office; because of his broad media technology background, he does a little bit of everything, ” says music faculty member Ray Riley, who served as Cameron’s mentor and advisor.

Multicast Media Network provides Web content delivery solutions. Cameron’s primary client is the International Triathlon Union, the international governing body for the Olympic sport of triathlon. He provides Web streaming, motion graphics and animation services.

“Cameron’s POE was created to address his two passions: music and researching new technology,” says Riley. “And he proved to be good at it. As he progressed through his program, he broadened his studies into Web technology, graphic design and Flash animation. He was an outstanding student.”

At Alma, Cameron supervised and renovated the music department’s 17-station digital keyboard teaching lab and the recording and post-production facility. He staffed the Heritage Center for performing arts and speaker series events. He trained new students to operate the technical resources and recorded and mastered senior recitals and auditions to help seniors with graduate school admissions and professional placement.

He also served as the Webmaster for various campus organizations. As a member of the College’s digital media team, he created a DVD production on College history.

Alma College students have the ability to design their own area of academic concentration, with the assistance of a faculty advisor, to meet specific educational or career goals. In recent years, students have graduated with Programs of Emphasis majors in such fields as arts management, archaeology and anthropology, environmental policy and community advocacy, Foreign Service and international law, and music technology and digital media.
