Toshia Williams

Through my P-Global grant I was able to spend a month in Cartago, Costa Rica, where I volunteered at an HIV/AIDS home. At the home I assisted with English lessons, planned activities for the residents and helped maintain the home.

Toshia Williams and volunteers and patients from the HIV/AIDS home in Cartago, Costa Rica.

The work I did at the HIV/AIDS home taught me a lot about efforts to reach out to those living with HIV/AIDS, but I think the most important thing I learned was the impact any volunteer can make. I volunteered alongside a woman with muscular dystrophy and a young man, who showed me that even just the presence of energetic, lively volunteers can brighten a resident’s day.
