Taking a break from painting the Center are friends Megan Dunn (Loyola Marymount), Kimberly Joki (Alma College) and Alicia Chapman (UCSD)

Friends Rebecca Lesser (NYU), Danielle Dinner (Fordham), and Kimberly Joki of Alma College hamming it up for the camera outside of Trujillo, Peru. Immediately behind them stand half-millenium old ruins.
My P-Global fellowship allowed me to spend 5 weeks interning in Villa El Salvador — a shantytown outside of Lima, Peru.
I worked three days a week in “Los Martincitos,” a program which feeds, teaches, provides medical services for, and entertains impoverished elderly. Twice a week I went on home-visits to provide comfort for those “abuelitos” who could not come to the program.
On weekends, I travelled with new friends to small cities around Peru. During my time in Peru I made great friends from all over the world, visited centuries old ruins, practiced my Spanish, and learned about life in poverty-stricken areas.
However, the most important thing that came from P-Global, is profound gratefulness. After living and caring for the poor, I look at my life in new ways and appreciate what I have.
