P-GLOBAL Leadership

Posey Global Leadership Initiative: Description

The P-GLOBAL Initiative is designed to cultivate the next generation of global leaders by promoting international experiences anywhere in the world and by supporting existing Alma College programs that seek to broaden student understanding of global issues.

The initiative provides new opportunities for students to participate in international internship, research and leadership experiences.

Specifically, the Posey Global Leadership Initiative will

  • annually fund approximately 15 Posey Global Leadership Fellows. The fellowships will be awarded to Alma College students to support international study through non-profit internships, independent research projects, seminars and conferences, or work related to global issues.

  • provide supplemental support annually for Alma’s Model United Nations program, which has served as a foundation for helping develop an appreciation for global issues. Model UN replicates the real United Nations in a competitive manner, with teams of college students debating topics relevant to issues facing the world community.

The initiative is made possible by a $2.062 million gift to Alma College from alumni Lee and Sally Posey.

Spring Term at Alma is a one-month immersion on a single academic topic that offers learning experiences not typically available during the more traditional 15-week fall and winter terms. For example, during Spring Term ‘07 students explored important cultural sites in China, worked to restore a Jewish Holocaust cemetery in Poland, analyzed ethic politics in Scotland, and studied medieval literature in London.
