Alma College welcomes visitors at all times of the year.

Located in a community of 10,000, the College features a walkable campus with historic and contemporary buildings. With plenty of places to eat, sleep and play, this mid-Michigan area offers residents and visitors alike entertainment and activities sure to fulfill everyone’s interests.

Scottish pipe bands are one featured element during the Highland Festival, which is held on the Alma College campus during Memorial Day weekend

Area communities feature festivals celebrating Scottish heritage, blues music and maple syrup. A nearby casino and resort brings in big-name entertainers, and local symphonies, theatre troupes and artist guilds provide cultural offerings reminiscent of larger cities.

 

Alma College was born on Oct. 14, 1886. George F. Hunting was appointed the College’s first president and professor of moral and mental science. The College’s founding was made possible by Ammi W. Wright, a lumberman, businessman and civic leader who gave 30 acres of land and more than $300,000 to found and sustain the institution in its early years.

Dr. Feler Bose

Dr. Feler Bose

Feler Bose took a winding road to his interest in economics, earning an undergraduate degree in chemistry and physics and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering before earning his doctorate in economics.

Bose grew up in India, and applied to many colleges in the United States before deciding on Hope College. After earning his master’s degree at Georgia Tech, he worked for the Institute of Paper Science and Technology at Georgia Tech as a Research Engineer.
