Newberry also houses the offices of the Almanian, the campus student newspaper.

Every residence hall has a lobby, study lounge, computer lab and laundry facilities. The Hall is staffed by student resident assistants and a postgraduate hall director.

The beach volleyball court outside of Newberry Hall is referred to by students as Newberry Beach. When the weather gets warmer in the spring, the students take advantage of this feature. Games are played constantly during spring term.

Newberry is named in honor of Helen Newberry Joy, who made several gifts to Alma College during her lifetime. The building was constructed after her death in 1961

Leadership Profile

Frank Knox

Frank Knox

Frank Knox may have gotten a C in chemistry, but that didn't stop him from living a life filled with explosive examples of leadership. After leaving Alma, he fought alongside Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. As publisher of the Chicago Daily News, he exposed Chicago rackets and corrupt politicians. Eventually, he served as Secretary of the Navy during Franklin Roosevelt's presidency.
