Meal Plans and Policies

Questions about Campus Dining?

What meal plans are available?

Because we understand that students need flexible meal plans to accommodate their busy schedules, we offer three meal plan options. These plans come with Munch Money, which is used in place of cash for those times when you may have to miss a scheduled meal. Munch Money can be used at any Sodexo location. We also offer Meal Advantage in Joe's for those students who cannot make it to a meal in the Commons.

14 Meal Plan: This plan allows you to enjoy any 14 meals of your choice per week, plus $165 in munch money for the semester. Students may purchase a "MEAL ON THE GO" using $4.50 in munch money.

19 Meal Plan: This plan allows you to enjoy any 19 meals of your choice per week, plus $100 in munch money for the semester. Students may purchase a "MEAL ON THE GO" using $4.50 in Munch Money.

160 Block Plan: This plan allows you to enjoy any 160 meals of your choice during the semester. New this year Sodexo has added $30, so now this plan has $165 in munch money. This plan will also allow you to feed guests with your meals from your meal plan. Students may purchase a "MEAL ON THE GO" using a meal from their plan or munch money.

"NEW" 210 Block - Your Meal Plan Your Way: This plan allows you to enjoy up to 210 meals of your choice during the semester. Students can create munch money by converting meals at the rate of $4.50 per meal. Students may purchase a "MEAL ON THE GO" using a meal from their plan or munch money. Conversion dates are September 2-9, 2008; October 20-25, 2008; January 5-9, 2009 and March 2-6, 2009

10 Meal Plan: This plan is for students with a kitchen. It allows you to enjoy any 10 meals of your choice per week, plus $100 in munch money for the semester. Students may purchase a "MEAL ON THE GO" using a meal from their plan or munch money.

How can I find out what's on the menu?

Menus for all meals are located on this website.

Do I always need to carry my ID card?

Your I.D. card identifies you as a holder of a meal plan, which is valuable and should be treated as cash. Your I.D. card must be presented to prevent unauthorized persons from using dining services for which you paid. If any resident allows their I.D. to be used by another student, Sodexo through the Student Affairs Office will take disciplinary action.

What if I lose my ID card?

If you lose your I.D. card you must purchase a new card for $75.00. This charge will be added to your account with Alma College.

What if I have to miss a scheduled meal?

Because we understand that students' schedules are busy, we offer MEAL ADVANTAGE. If your class or work schedule does not allow you to make scheduled meal hours, you may receive a meal exchange at Joe's Place Monday through Friday from 1:45-3:30 PM for lunch; Monday through Thursday from 7:00-8:00 PM for dinner; Friday 6:30-7:30 PM for dinner; and Saturday and Sunday from 1:00-2:00 PM. We also offer a late nite meal from 9:30-10:30 PM Monday through Thursday. Another option is to request a sack meal by filling out a slip at the checker's stand at Hamilton Commons or by printing the slip off our webpage and bringing it to the checker 24 hours in advance. New this year in Hamilton Commons "MEALS ON THE GO"; grab a pre-made meal for $4.50 using your munch money or a meal from your plan depending on which meal plan you have chosen.

What is Munch Money?

Munch money is for those times when you may have to miss a meal or just want a snack. This money can be used at any Sodexo location: Joe's Place, Hamilton Commons, Van Dusen Commons and the Faculty Dining Room. Munch money received with a meal plan does not carry over from semester to semester. You will receive up to $15 of munch money for May term, depending on how long you are on campus.

What if I run out of Munch Money?

Munch Money may be purchased at the Sodexo Main Office located in the basement of Hamilton Commons. An Advantage to buying Munch Money is that you will receive 10% more Munch Money free.

May I take food or drinks from the commons?

Our dining halls are all-you-can-eat facilities, and you may not take food or drinks with you. We are happy to serve you on an unlimited basis during the hours of operation. Also see the flexibility section for more options.

What if I need a special diet?

We are happy to assist you in any dietary needs you have. If our dining selections cannot satisfy your nutritional needs, we will attempt to meet your needs by meeting with the General Manager of the Dining Services.

May I have a guest at meals?

If you wish to have a guest(s) eat with you, you may pay for them using your Munch Money, a meal from your Block Plan, or pay cash at the door.

What is a board exchange?

A board exchange is an opportunity for organized student groups to take food off campus for picnics or retreats in exchange for their normal boarding meal. Please contact a Sodexo Manager four days in advance of your event to ensure that everything you need is available.

What Is Student Quick Serve Catering?

Student quick serve catering is an opportunity for organized student groups to save money on their food by picking it up themselves. The menu choices are available on our webpage. Please contact a Sodexo Manager at x7334 or x7284 four days in advance to plan your own party and save money!

Are there jobs available with Sodexo on campus?

The dining service provides jobs to students throughout the year to help pay bills or get some extra spending money. We will attempt to work around your schedule and be flexible. If you are interested, see a Sodexo Manager.

Can I submit a suggestion or comment?

Suggestions and comments are always welcome! Comment cards are available in each dining facility for you to fill in any suggestions or comments you may have. Feel free to complete our online survey on our Sodexo webpage. Also, a dining committee meets once a month to ensure students' needs are being heard and met. If you are interested in becoming a member of this committee, please contact a Sodexo Manager.
