Editorial Commends College

Alma College was the topic of a Saginaw News editorial on Friday, Feb. 4 titled “Alma College Deftly Advances.” The opinion piece analyzes the College’s plans to spend $18.7 million on construction and facility improvements. Read more.

DDT Conference Adds ISSE as Co-Sponsor

An international organization with members from more than 50 countries has added its co-sponsorship to the Eugene Kenaga International DDT Conference on Environment and Health, which will take place March 14 at Alma College. Read more.

Faculty and Staff: Relay for Life’s No. 1 Team

Congratulations to the faculty and staff team for raising $2,982 for Relay for Life. The team received awards at the closing ceremony for highest online fundraising team, highest overall fundraising team, highest online fundraiser (Joanne Gilbert), and most fundraising e-mails sent out through the Relay For Life Website (Willard Korson). Fundraising activities included a flamingo infestation ($31.00) and the penny war ($786.50). The grand total for the event was $28,704. This year’s team members were: Alisa Dean (captain), Mike Bishop, Krissie Divers, Lou Ecken. Joanne Gilbert, Willard Korson, Robert Molina, Anne Ritz and Cassie Tennant. Read more.

College Named to National Service Honor Roll

The Corporation for National and Community Service has named Alma College to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll With Distinction for exemplary service efforts and service to disadvantaged youth. Launched in 2006, the Community Service Honor Roll is the highest federal recognition a school can achieve for its commitment to service-learning and civic engagement. Read more.

Model UN Teams Garner Top Awards

Two Alma College student delegations received recognition at the 48th Midwest Model United Nations Conference Feb. 13-16 in St. Louis, Mo. Read more.

Truman Finalists Named

Three Alma College juniors are national finalists for the $30,000 Truman Scholarship. They will compete against 207 other finalists for approximately 75 scholarships. Read more.

 

 


 

 

Alma’s “green” residence hall, Wright Hall, was completed in January 2005. The modern, 60-bed apartment-style hall features a number of environmentally friendly features, including geothermal heating and cooling, recycled-content ceiling tiles and carpeting, energy-efficient windows, rooftop solar heating panels, energy-efficient showers and washing machines, and a computerized energy monitoring system.
