Summer Construction
The Library, Chapel and Heritage Center Are Targets for Campus Renovation
Summer construction projects — from the renovation of the lower level of the library to Chapel repairs to Heritage Center and academic facility improvements — are on the docket over the next few months. Here’s a rundown of some of the planned campus projects.
-
Accessibility improvements include the installation of a chair lift at the northeast ground level entrance to the library. A door actuator was recently installed at the Remick Heritage Center.
-
Repairs at the Chapel include refinishing and painting the columns, fascia and soffits.

Construction crews like these will be seen on campus this summer. Above, a new surface for the track is prepared.
-
Emergency notification sirens will be installed on the Chapel steeple and at Klenk Park. In addition to the sirens, more information will be forthcoming regarding the implementation of a new campus wide emergency notification system that will simultaneously notify individuals through multiple media, such as cell phones and email.
-
Heritage Center improvements will include the replacement of the pine tongue-in-groove stage floor with a maple floor in Presbyterian Hall and the installation of a new dimmer system.
-
A major renovation of the lower level of the library will include the remodeling of Academic and Career Planning space and the preparation of the ground floor for the eventual move of the Information Technology office from Swanson Academic Center to the library in August. In addition, the project will add four small study rooms and a shared conference room.
-
Academic facility improvements totaling approximately $250,000 will include floor tile replacements in Dow Science Center and Kapp Science laboratories, exhaust hood improvements and new music practice spaces.
-
Outdoor athletics work will include the repair of seams on the artificial football turf to make the surface safe for the fall season. Klenk Park work involves cleaning and repairing drainage in the right field warning track area. Additionally, all six exterior tennis courts will be resurfaced.
-
The Cappaert Gymnasium floor in the Hogan Center will be restriped during the first two weeks in June and 35-second clocks relocated on the right side of the backboards per NCAA rules.
-
The roofs on the president’s house and garage will be reshingled.
-
A facelift of the Fireside Room in Tyler-Van Dusen will address lighting, carpeting and window coverings.
-
A list of student-driven improvements begun earlier in the year will be completed, including adding wireless to selected residence hall lobbies, improving residence hall laundry rooms, and adding thresholds for accessibility.
