Terra Teague Earns the Barlow Trophy

Students Receive Awards at Honors Convocation

Terra Teague of Monroe is the 2008 winner of the Barlow Trophy, Alma’s most prestigious award for a graduating senior.

Presented at the 2008 Honors Convocation on Thursday, April 3, the Barlow Trophy was established in 1949 by Dr. Joel Barlow, a 1929 honors graduate at Alma College. The award recognizes academic achievement for a graduating senior in the top 10 percent of the class as well as contributions to campus and community.

The Barlow Trophy is determined by a vote of Alma’s Student Congress and faculty members.

President Tracy presents the Barlow Trophy to Terra Teague, who is accompanied by her mother and father, Teresa and David Teague.

Teague earned a 4.0 grade point average in her business administration major. She has volunteered for numerous service activities, including hurricane relief in Louisiana, Special Olympics, Forgotten Children of Eastern Europe, Relay for Life, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity and Community Cafe. She also has served as a coach for the Girls on the Run Mentor Program for young girls in third through fifth grades.

As a market economics project manager, treasurer, vice president and currently president of the Alma College Students in Free Enterprise organization, she has worked to redesign the organizational structure, extended recruitment efforts to underclass students, participated in numerous outreach projects, and developed partnerships with local businesses.

She has served as a representative to the Board of Trustees and Student Congress and as this year’s senior class president. She also was an inaugural member of the Center for Responsible Leadership, played on the women’s varsity basketball team, served as a teaching assistant, and participated as a delegate in Model United Nations competitions.

Ann Armbruster of Ann Arbor and Hadley Boehm of Perry were the other Barlow nominees.
