Fall athletics season arrives

The 2006 fall athletic season has arrived and the excitement of afternoon soccer games as the leaves turn at Scotland Yard and the sound of bagpipes on Saturdays from Bahlke Field as the football team rushes into the record books are back.

The volleyball team returned to campus first, beginning pre-season practices on Aug. 18. Football and men's and women's soccer all reported in the following days with the men's and women's golf and cross country teams on campus by the time pre-term orientation wrapped up.

Junior Wide Receiver Joe Cline (Ithaca) and Head Football Coach Jim Cole

This year head football coach Jim Cole will host the Coaches Luncheon Series at noon on Fridays beginning Sept. 8 in the Heather Room. Joining Coach Cole throughout the season are other fall sport coaches and student-athletes. Last year, Dave Zerbe made an appearance and let everyone know that the upbeat halftime performances of the Kiltie Marching Band are in fact comparable to a tough workout.

All faculty, staff and friends are welcome at the luncheons. Lunch is provided as a courtesy to Alma College Athletics fans while donations to offset its cost are appreciated.

Your Alma College I.D. gives all faculty, staff and students free admission to all home athletic events (excluding MIAA and NCAA post-season contests). Kids 12 and under are admitted free of charge, and all other fans and friends of Scots Athletics can purchase game tickets for home football games for just $5.

Faculty and staff also can sign-up now for free eScores - game scores and updates straight to one's e-mail inbox or cell phone. Visit www.alma.edu/athletics and click on the eScores icon at right to sign-up.

Spring Term courses offer students opportunities to break out of the “Alma Bubble.” Off-campus study, especially in a foreign country, shows you how you relate to the rest of the world and how the rest of the world views American people, politics and policies. You can then integrate your real world experiences into your academic programs and your future career.
