PR Introduces The Pinecone online

A message from Mike Silverthorn, director of marketing and public relations:

Welcome to the all-new, Web-based, online version of the Pinecone, the campus news publication for Alma College faculty and staff.

What's new about it? The Pinecone is no longer produced as a PDF document that is e-mailed to everyone's inbox. Rather, it is now a Web publication that allows you to click on the stories and information you want to read. What hasn't changed is the familiar Pinecone banner and the news content focused specifically to campus employees.

What information does it provide? All the features of the old Pinecone are still here. Major stories will document campus news. Along the right column, readers can click on the calendar of events, professional activities, news briefs and various links to campus Web pages that are important to faculty and staff.

Can faculty still submit publications and presentations? Absolutely. Nothing has changed with that process. Click on "Professional Activities"" to read about recent faculty and staff publications and presentations. To submit items, click on the faculty profile log-in page and follow the instructions for submitting professional activities.

When will it be published? For now, the online Pinecone will continue its previous publication schedule — every other Friday. We will remind you by e-mail when a new Pinecone is posted.

Who is the editor? Yours truly. Submit comments, story ideas and corrections to silverthorn@alma.edu, phone 7290.

What about Skip? I also am pleased to announce new job responsibilities for Skip Traynor, former Pinecone editor and media relations director. He has been given a new title: Digital Media Editor. His job responsibilities include the development and implementation of various multimedia projects, including but not limited to Web-based video, DVDs, audio clips, podcasts and digital graphic images. This new position fulfills a priority for our office to move forward more directly into promotional digital production. In essence, Skip will continue as campus photographer but will add videography and digital media applications to his job description. Feel free to contact him at 7232 about potential projects for promoting Alma College via digital media.

Who is dealing with the media? Please contact me with story ideas of interest to the news media.
