Visitors

  • During the week all overnight visitors must get a green Visitor Permit at the Physical Plant. You should have the visiting vehicle's license plate number. Visitors can park in the commuter lot #2 overnight. Also, there are designated visitor parking spaces, which can be identified by the parking map. These spaces are available Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, for daytime visitors. A parking permit is not required for these spaces during the indicated days and times.
  • During the weekends, visitors do not need a permit and can park in any student parking lot as long as it is a legal parking space.

For students who wish to bring a vehicle to campus but were unable to obtain a parking permit, or for those interested in parking their vehicles close to campus at no cost, there is the option of parking student vehicles in one of three municipal lots owned by the City of Alma.

The City has made Lots 1, 5 and 7 available to all students. Lot 1 is located behind True Value Hardware; Lot 5 is located off State Street, east of the Secretary of State Office; and Lot 7 is located in the State Street Plaza behind the Commercial Bank drive-through.

The City prefers that students park in either Lot 5 or 7, using Lot 1 only when the other lots are full. Additionally, please check the lots for any signage that may restrict you from parking in certain areas for extended periods of time.

If you have questions, please contact Nancy Harger at 989-463-7250.

Parking Enforcement

Security and designated personnel will monitor and enforce parking regulations. Due to the limited number of parking spaces, it is important that students,  faculty and staff park only in areas that they have permits for and in designated spaces. Fire lanes must be maintained to provide access for emergency vehicles.

Tickets

  • Vehicles without the proper permits displayed in the specified location will be ticketed.
  • Vehicles parked in reserved areas, fire lanes, on the lawn or in areas other than their permits allow, will be ticketed.
  • Ticket fines are $20.00. Tickets need to be paid before the end of the term as any unpaid ticket amount will go on the student's account.

Vehicle Towing

  • Vehicles that are parked illegally and have received 3 or more parking violations will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.
  • Vehicles that do not have the required parking permit will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.
  • Vehicles that are blocking fire lanes, parked in reserved spaces or on the lawn will be ticketed and towed at the owner's expense.

Students at Alma College can get involved in any of nearly 100 campus organizations, including fraternities and sororities, student government, academic honorary societies, campus media, intramural sports, the performing arts and worship groups.
