Wellness matters at Alma College. Whether it’s competitive wellness challenges, stepping contests, health screenings, healthy food options or fitness programs, Alma College employees have numerous opportunities to engage in activities that promote healthy lifestyles.
Participation in Alma College wellness activities is completely voluntary. Activities that are coordinated by the Employee Wellness Committee are open to all College employees, along with retirees on the College’s health insurance plan, who have a desire to improve their overall wellness.
* Employees are encouraged to exercise regularly, eat right and make healthy life style choices.
* Employees who wish to exercise during their lunch hours are permitted, with supervisory approval, to move their schedule a half or full hour either way from the normal noon to 1 p.m. lunch hour and to extend the lunch hour 15 minutes if needed to get in a workout, cool down, get something to eat, and be back to work.
* Employees are welcome to take advantage of the fitness facilities in the Stone Recreation Center and the Hogan Center. Drop-in pick-up basketball games at noon are a popular option for many faculty and staff. Swimming, racquetball, volleyball and the indoor track also are available.
* The Fred Meijer Heartland Trail runs alongside the Alma campus. The paved trail, situated on an abandoned railroad line, is a wonderful resource for lunchtime or after-hours walks, runs or bicycle trips.
