Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor of Biology

The Biology Department at Alma College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor of Biology. Special consideration will be given to applicants with the ability to teach general botany, immunology or developmental biology.  We seek an individual with demonstrated skills in, and a commitment to, undergraduate teaching and research.  Duties will begin in August 2013.  

The ideal candidate will have the ability to 1) inspire undergraduate student success through instruction in classroom and laboratory environments, and 2) involve students in a thriving biology research program in a liberal arts college environment. Teaching responsibilities will potentially include participation in First-year Seminars, and upper-level major electives.  Interdepartmental collaborations are encouraged. 

A Ph.D. is required for appointment at the Assistant Professor rank; applicants with A.B.D. status may be considered for the Instructor rank. In December 2011, Alma College students, faculty and staff designed and hosted a conference in Washington, D.C., on the 500th anniversary of human rights advocacy. With a passion for science and the power to make people smile, Connor Welsh put two and two together when he decided to major in biochemistry.

“As corny as it sounds, I like helping people,” he says. “I feel like I could really make a difference, so my goal is to go to med school and study anesthesiology or dermatology.”
