Licensed Electrician

Position Summary: The Licensed Electrician will provide general and specific electrical maintenance for the campus.

Supervision Received/Supervision Exercised: This position reports to the Electrical Shop Supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  1. Repairs and maintains campus lighting and electrical systems and equipment.
  2. Troubleshoots electrical circuitry.
  3. Troubleshoots life safety systems, including fire alarms, smoke detectors, emergency lighting, etc.
  4. Works alongside IT department, providing assistance on sound systems, scoreboards and other communications equipment.
  5. Troubleshoots security systems such as card readers.
  6. Works closely with the department’s mechanical shop installing and troubleshooting controls.
  7. Expected to function productively and independently on projects around campus.
  8. Holds and maintains a valid Michigan driver’s license.
  9. Holds and maintains a valid Michigan electrician’s license.
  10. Establishes and maintains a positive and cooperative working relationship with all members of the department and campus community.
  11. Plans work and orders material as required by supervisor or management.
  12. Stays up to date with current codes, regulations and practices.

Required Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma
  2. Valid journeyman’s license in State of Michigan
  3. Minimum of two years’ experience as a licensed electrician
  4. Basic computer skills
  5. Experience with voltage in excess of 480 volt

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Experience in low voltage systems and equipment
  2. Certifications in safety programs
  3. Experience in building management software

Physical Requirements:
Ability to work outdoors and to climb ladders, lift, sit at desk and move about all areas of campus.
