Director of Admissions
Alma College, a private liberal arts college of over 1,400 students located in the heart of Michigan, is seeking a highly motivated, student-centered individual for the position of Director of Admissions. The Director of Admissions is responsible for all aspects of the admissions office, including the development and implementation of strategies to accomplish strategic goals set by the Board of Trustees and President. This position reports directly to the Vice President for Enrollment.
This individual must possess strong organizational, written and oral communication skills, and a capacity to work collegially with students, staff and faculty. Responsibilities include meeting and exceeding enrollment goals by hiring, training, monitoring and motivating admissions representatives as well as interacting broadly with the campus community in support of student recruitment.
The successful candidate must be a skilled manager of staff, understand and be capable of utilizing technology in enrollment services, and bring a positive attitude to the admissions team. The ideal candidate will possess excellent presentation, communication and interpersonal skills with a strong work ethic. Also necessary are effective time management skills, a strong sense of customer focus, high performance leadership style, excellent listening skills, involvement in national and regional conversations surrounding the enrollment profession, accountability for the bottom-line results and the ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends and some holidays.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree; five years of progressively responsible experience in admissions, enrollment services or other related higher education work, including management and supervisory roles. Other requirements include:
- Progressively broad-based supervisory experience in a higher education institution setting;
- Ability to envision and implement a comprehensive admissions program;
- Ability to organize tasks and set priorities;
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data and assess results of unit initiatives;
- Demonstrated skill in budget management;
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of enrollment services technology;
- Demonstrated skills as a communicator, including effective interpersonal, intercultural and written communication;
- Ability to make independent professional judgments with integrity;
- Ability to resolve conflicts; and
- Awareness of national and regional trends in the enrollment profession.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree; experience with first-year, transfer and international admissions processes; a deep understanding of the value of a private, liberal arts education.
