Assistant Professor of History

The Department of History at Alma College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant professor position beginning August 2013.  Candidates should be broadly trained in European history with a specialty in Medieval or Early Modern Continental Europe and with expertise and interest in teaching the other field.  Candidates must be committed to undergraduate learning and research at a selective Phi Beta Kappa liberal arts institution.

The instructional load will include survey courses in world and European history and upper-level courses in areas of specialization.  We welcome candidates with an interest in teaching thematic, methodological, transnational and/or interdisciplinary courses related to the European medieval and early modern periods, particularly legal and women's/gender issues.

Review of applications will begin November 2012.  Preference will be given to qualified candidates who have completed the Ph.D. by August 2012; experience in undergraduate teaching is highly desirable.
