Assistant/Associate Professor of New Media Studies
The Department of Communication and New Media Studies at Alma College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in new media studies beginning fall of 2012. We seek a dynamic colleague who will flourish in a multidisciplinary program that combines theory and practice. The successful candidate will be committed to undergraduate education as well as to ongoing research in the field, and will play a pivotal role in shaping the new media studies program.
Our new colleague will excel at program building, including curriculum development and active outreach to prospective students. Applicants should demonstrate technical expertise in professional communication practices using digital media as well as rich theoretical understanding of the field. A commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and to mentoring students in project-oriented applications is essential, as is evidence of an ongoing research interest in areas such as multimedia design, convergence, and other issues relevant to digital communication.
A Ph.D. in new media studies or terminal degree in a related discipline is required for tenure-track appointment. Alma’s full-time teaching load is six courses per year with potential for interdepartmental teaching opportunities. All applicants should demonstrate excellent teaching skills, including an ability to teach a wide range of introductory and advanced courses in both the production and analysis of new media, and clear potential for ongoing contributions to the scholarship of the field.
