Assistant Provost

Alma College seeks a responsible, motivated individual for the position of Assistant Provost to provide assistance and leadership in academic sector initiatives.  The Assistant Provost reports to the Provost and will be an integral part of the Provost's Office team.

 

The Assistant Provost is a full-time, twelve-month position.  The starting date is negotiable, but no later than July 1, 2011.  The ideal candidate will have administrative experience, preferably in higher education; strong written and oral communication skills; and an ability to implement long-term projects while adjusting quickly to emerging circumstances.  Patience and a sense of humor will be valuable assets.  The minimum educational requirement is a masters' degree.

 

The primary duties of the Assistant Provost are to:

  • Collaborate with the Provost's Office staff on major events of the academic calendar and special projects;
  • Collaborate with the Provost and faculty in development of academic schedules and programs;
  • Coordinate First Year Experience with faculty, admissions, and student life;
  • Assist the Provost in faculty recruitment and orientation;
  • Administer part-time faculty and overload contracts; monitor faculty loads;
  • Coordinate assessment of student learning with academic departments and for the campus as a whole;
  • Coordinate student advising and registration initiatives;
  • Supervise designated support staff;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Caitlin Borchard ’07 is happy to celebrate Alma College’s Scottish roots, but she also loves her Greek connections.

“I decided to go through recruitment into Greek life just for fun and ended up finding my home in Alpha Xi Delta,” she says. “Not only did I make lifelong friendships, it gave me so many leadership opportunities and really helped me come out of my shell.”
