Chief Technology Officer

Position Summary

Alma College is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). The CTO will provide leadership in the strategic planning and integration of campus-wide information technology and supervise the Department of Information Technology.

Responsibilities

The CTO provides the vision and leadership required to effectively integrate technology throughout the campus community. Maintaining a proactive, creative and collaborative environment that ensures technology solutions meet the changing demands of the College, the CTO works effectively to:

  • Ensure efficient and secure computer and information services that meet the College's academic and administrative needs.
  • Create and maintain a customer service oriented workforce that meets or exceeds the requirements of a wide variety of user groups.
  • Recruit, develop and supervise staff consistent with expectations for accountability, continuous improvement and budget management for the College.
  • Identify, in conjunction with the Executive Staff, strategic priorities for the campus wide technology infrastructure.
  • Design solutions in collaborative fashion with various constituent groups, including faculty, administration and students.
  • Identify and pursue external funding for technology.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive five-year plan for the campus technology environment and assist in the integration of this plan into capital budgets, master campus plans and academic expansion plans.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a strong combination of technology, communication and management skills as well as the vision required to proactively plan and develop technology infrastructures that effectively support the mission of the College. Bachelor's degree and extensive IT experience with progressive management responsibilities required. Advanced degree and higher education work experience preferred.

About the Department of Information Technology

The Department consists of thirteen professional staff members and numerous student employees. It implements and supports the technological environment of the college, including administrative systems, instructional technology, media services, networking, personal computers for faculty/staff and labs, printing, web services, and telecommunications. Facilities consist of a fully networked campus with numerous distributed computer laboratories, a new Media Commons, over 750 personal computers, classroom technology solutions, newly implemented server facility, and a help desk for campus wide technical support. The College is currently migrating its administrative computing system to Datatel Colleague.
