Assistant Professor of Music

The Alma College Department of Music seeks applicants for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor to begin August 2010.  The assignment includes conducting the Alma Symphony Orchestra and providing the leadership for an imaginative and energetic recruiting program that builds a college student strings program.  Teaching responsibilities include conducting and other departmental courses based on expertise and experience (preference given to composition, theory/aural skills, studio lessons, and world music).  Offerings outside the major can include first-year seminars with musical topics and 4-week May term courses.

Candidates should be committeed to undergraduate liberal arts education, to active pursuit of scholarship and/or creative work, and to institutional service.  Full-time teaching load is six courses per year; salaries, benefits, and support for professional development are competitive.

Requirements include: completed doctorate degree (or in the final stages of completion) and orchestral conducting experience.  Teaching experience at the college level and demonstrated success in attracting students preferred.
