Assistant Professor of Economics
The Alma College Economics Department invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor beginning Fall 2008. Candidates with any of the JEL Fields are invited to apply, but the successful candidate should be able to meet the needs of a small department and be willing to teach the following courses: Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics, Intermediate Macroeconomics, and Public Finance. The candidate will also be expected to contribute significantly to the development of a capstone seminar course. Candidates with teaching or research experience in O1 Economic Development are strongly encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to qualified candidates who have completed a Ph.D. by August 2008; experience in undergraduate teaching is highly desirable.
Teaching load is six courses per year. Responsibilities include academic advising and institutional involvement. The Department also encourages development of new courses by new faculty in their areas of special interest, and welcomes interdisciplinary applications. Candidates must be strongly committed to undergraduate liberal learning and research.
Applicants should send a letter of interest that includes a statement of how their goals as a teacher and scholar may be realized in the context of undergraduate liberal arts education, a current CV, a copy of graduate transcripts, a sample of representative scholarly work, evidence of teaching effectiveness, a statement of teaching philosophy or portfolio, and three letters of recommendation to Dr. Robert Cunningham, Economics Chair, Alma College, 614 W. Superior St., Alma, MI 48801. Review of applications begins November 19, 2007. Preliminary interviews will be held at the ASSA/AEA meetings in New Orleans in January 2008.
