Web Content Writer

Position Summary

The Web Content Writer is responsible for writing content for the Alma College Website; keeping Web content current, fresh and accurate; developing, maintaining and updating office and department Web pages in a timely fashion; assisting the Web Editor in implementing and maintaining a systematic content review schedule for department and office Web pages; and completing other priority projects as assigned.

The Web Content Writer reports to the Director of Marketing & Public Relations and works closely with the Web Editor, who is responsible for monitoring the overall Web site for informative, timely, professional and effective content and who provides leaderhip in the use of emerging technologies to enhance the College's Web presence.

Major Tasks

  • Write original, Web-appropriate articles on Alma College faculty, students, staff members, alumni, donors and programs. This includes identifying story topics and sources, gathering facts and information, interviewing sources, and fact checking for 100 percent accuracy.

  • Work with faculty to create, update and enhance academic department Web page content that successfully targets intended audiences.

  • Work with office directors and staff to create, update and enhance office Web page content that successfully targets intended audiences.

  • Assist Web Editor in proactively and consistently monitoring Web pages for accurate information and relevant content.

  • Assist Web Editor in planning, creating and implementing Web elements that enhance the College’s online presence.

  • Work with the Digital Media Editor to identify and locate appropriate images to supplement written content for department and office Web pages.

  • Assist, as needed, the Director of Marketing & Public Relations and the Web Editor in completing special projects as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Strong writing, thinking, interviewing and people skills.
  • Baccalaureate degree in communications, journalism, English or related field.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects under deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with office colleagues, faculty, students and staff across all disciplines.
  • Experience preferred in writing for the Web, news publications or comparable publications.
