Accounts Payable Clerk

Accounts Payable Clerk

Applications are now being accepted for an Accounts Payable Clerk. The hours are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Summary

This position will be responsible for completing all phases of the accounts payable function.

Supervision Received

This position will work with and under the supervision of the Assistant Controller. In addition, work with the Director of Business Services/Controller on special requests.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verify invoices and requisitions for proper general ledger account numbers and proper management approval
  • Send incoming invoices to appropriate departments for approval
  • Match invoices to open purchase orders, checking for inaccuracies
  • Input and balance invoice batches
  • Print and distribute accounts payable checks on a weekly basis
  • Maintain vendor file
  • Work with vendors to ensure proper credit is applied
  • Maintain cash advances
  • Send wires and order foreign currency
  • Check vendor statements monthly and follow-up on inaccuracies
  • Send tax exempt certificates and credit applications
  • Monthly reconciliation of specified accounts
  • Assist with year end 1099 generation
  • Purchase order creation
  • Serve as backup to cashier and payroll
  • Help others in the office as needed

Required Qualifications

  • 2 years accounting experience with some formal accounting training
  • Experience in computerized accounts payable system
  • Knowledge of general office procedures
  • Proficient data entry
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines

Desirable Job Qualifications

  • Experience with Microsoft suite of products, including Excel, Word and NT Operating Systems
  • Excellent organizational skills

The pay range is $8.40 – $9.88 per hour, depending on experience and other qualifications.

A Truman Scholarship finalist and Center for Responsible Leadership Fellow, Drew has traveled to South Africa and China studying the HIV/AIDS crisis. The Bay City native intends to use his French minor and POE in International Health to improve AIDS care in Africa, hopefully as a physician with a global public health organization.
