Athletic Director

Alma College is seeking an Athletic Director (AD). The AD reports to the Vice President for Student Life and supervises the Athletic Department with responsibility for: the overall development and general management of the Alma College intercollegiate athletic program; selection and supervision of the coaching and other staff; the recruitment and retention of prospective student-athletes; resource allocation and development for intercollegiate athletic programs; building relationships with internal and external constituencies; and, compliance with all NCAA and MIAA rules and standards. The AD will incorporate the Alma College mission into the philosophy and practice of the athletic program. This is a full-time position with evening and weekend work. The position allows for classroom teaching should the incumbent meet academic departmental requirements.

Qualifications: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree with an advanced degree preferred, support for the DIII philosophy, previous successful head coaching experience, substantial knowledge and experience in the technical and leadership aspects of sports and sports management of a total intercollegiate athletic program, knowledge of NCAA regulations, the ability to work in a team setting and work effectively with a variety of audiences and departments, an understanding of student development, the ability to balance student needs and take an institutional perspective consistent with small liberal arts colleges, an understanding of the recruitment and retention processes for student-athletes and familiarity with advancement and fund raising.
