Associate Web and Database Developer
Alma College seeks applications and nominations for the position of Associate Web and Database Developer in its Department of Information Technology. We are looking for a motivated individual who can work collaboratively in a service-oriented department and who has a strong understanding of academic computing in a quality liberal arts setting.
Under the direction of the Senior Web and Database Developer, the Associate Web and Database Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining web applications and also supporting administrative database systems.
Essential duties and responsibilities are:
- Designs, creates, and maintains new and existing web software applications as appropriate to meet specific information requirements (75%) by maintaining and developing new and existing PHP/MySQL web applications on the various web servers, maintaining and developing new and existing Channels/Portlets in the Alma College Portal (including Java programming and MySQL database interaction), and assisting in support and maintenance of various web and database servers of both Linux and Mac OS X platforms;
- Interacts with other administrative offices to determine and interpret information requirements, develops programs and assists in database report generation for administrative systems (25%) by maintaining and developing new and existing Crystal Reports for administrative data, and maintaining administrative systems (Jenzabar applications);
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
The position requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in computer sciences or related discipline. Two years of professional experience is preferred. Requires good organizational skills and the ability to communicate and interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. As our environment shifts from traditional client/server to web-based interfaces with the administrative systems, this position requires a high level of comfort with web development.
Preferred technical skills are: PHP, SQL (MySQL and/or MS SQL), Java (J2EE), XHTML/XML, Crystal Reports, CSS, JavaScript, Linus/Unix, and Mac OS X.
