Director of Alumni Relations

Alma College, a Presbyterian-affiliated liberal arts college located in the center of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, seeks an energetic and experienced Director of Alumni Relations. With a student population of 1,300, Alma College offers an excellent liberal arts curriculum, an encouraging educational environment, and abundant opportunities for students to learn, lead, experience, discover and grow.

The Director of Alumni Relations reports to the Vice President for Advancement. The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree, excellent oral and written communication skills and special events experience. S/he must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously, travel extensively, and work evenings and weekends as necessary.

A minimum of 5 years of experience in alumni relations and/or fund raising is highly desired.

The primary duties of the Director are:

  • Plan and implement alumni programs and regional events that will enhance relationships with our 12,000 alumni, the community and the College.
  • Communicate details of events with the President, Vice President and other staff members.
  • Organize and implement the annual Homecoming weekend and activities associated with commencement.
  • Solicit current Alumni Board members and former Board members for the Alma Fund.
  • Plan direct solicitation to increase reunion class giving.
  • Increase the alumni base of donors to the Alma Fund.
  • Plan and implement cultivation activities to encourage support of the Open Windows Campaign.
  • Direct the meetings and goals of the Alumni Board to reflect the College mission.
  • Direct the alumni web site to keep content current.
  • Manage the Alumni Relations annual budget and keep within the parameters.
  • Create and continue to build on student and alumni programs already implemented to connect students to alumni and alumni to the campus in meaningful ways.
  • Mentor and continue to build Alma Leadership Alliance, the student organization.
  • Conduct special projects for the President and the Vice President for Advancement as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President for Advancement

More than 100 Alma College students and staff traveled to destinations in Georgia, Tennessee, Florida and Mississippi for service projects during winter break in February 2008.
