Organic Chemist

A one year, full-time faculty position for academic year 2006-2007.  Possibility of extending the appointment for three years.

Qualifications: Applicants from all areas of organic chemistry are sought.  Candidates will be evaluated on their potential as enthusiastic teachers. Ph.D. is required and undergraduate teaching experience is preferred. Applications from women and minorities are especially encouraged.

Teaching Responsibilities:
This position is full-time for the academic year, beginning Fall 2006. The successful applicant will teach organic lectures and laboratories.  In addition, participation in other courses will be available.

The Department of Chemistry:
The successful applicant will become part of a department of five chemists and one biochemist. ACS certified degrees are offered in both chemistry and biochemistry. The curriculum creatively meets ACS certification guidelines and provides opportunities for student participation in research. The faculty has a deep commitment to quality liberal arts education; student development in a residential setting; student research; and interdisciplinary intercultural and international education. Opportunities to participate in all aspects of the curriculum will be available.  Salaries, benefits, and support for professional development are competitive.

Facilities: The Department is housed in modern facilities.  Laboratories have good ventilation and hood space, and are arranged in suites with adjacent instrumentation labs. Instrumentation includes: 300 MHz multinuclear FT-NMR, GC, GC/MS, FT-IR, HPLC, IC, AA, UV-VIS, and a glovebox.  Networked Macintosh and/or PC computers are located in every laboratory.
