Director of the Center for Responsible Leadership

Alma College, a selective liberal arts institution, is seeking applications for the position of Director of the newly created Center for Responsible Leadership.  The director will be instrumental in launching new programming, maintaining the momentum of existing programming, and integrating the Center for Responsible Leadership into the College as a whole.

The director will provide the vision, leadership, coordination and evaluation for all of the programs sponsored by the Center.  The director will also build on-campus coalitions to constituents and community agencies to create possibilities for service-learning and internships.

This is a 12-month administrative position reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affiars.

Major tasks include:

  • Communicate the vision and direction for the Center as a whole to both on- and off-campus constituents;
  • Teach leadership seminars and workshops;
  • Develop and direct two Leadership Institutes;
  • Develop and direct a weekend leadership retreat;
  • Develop and direct a High School leadership institute;
  • Plan monthly seminars for Leadership Fellows;
  • Facilitate on-campus collaborations (e.g. Student Life sector, Athletics);
  • Facilitate off-campus collaborations;
  • Systematically evaluate the Center programs;
  • Provide financial management and oversight of the Center;
  • Work with and report to the CRL advisory committee;
  • Report to granting agencies;
  • Supervise staff;
  • Fund raising and grant writing.

Qualifications are as follows:

  • A commitment to liberal arts education;
  • Knowledge of leadership theory and practice;
  • Demonstrated administrative excellence and experience;
  • Experience in teaching leadership courses or seminars is preferred;
  • Graduate work in leadership, management or a traditional liberal arts field - Ph.D. is preferred;
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
