Major Gifts Officer

Alma College, a Presbyterian-affiliated liberal arts college located in the center of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, seeks an energetic and experienced fundraiser to serve as its Major Gifts Officer. With a student population of 1,300, Alma offers an excellent liberal arts curriculum, an encouraging educational environment, and abundant opportunities for students to learn, lead, experience, discover and grow.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, excellent written and verbal skills as well as the ability to organize and implement an effective travel schedule. Expectations include a demonstrated orientation toward goal attainment. Previous fundraising success in higher education, 3-5 years experience.

Position Type

The position is a temporary full-time position funded for the duration of the capital campaign (approximately three years). The position may become permanent contingent on funding.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Ability to build long term relationships with prospects by making personal calls to identify, qualify, and solicit individuals, Corporations and Foundations to cultivate and secure gifts for the Open Windows Campaign.
  2. Prioritize time commitment to focus on external contacts at least 80% of the time. Expected to travel (both day trips and extended trips) to reach the maximum amount of donors.
  3. The successful candidate will have the ability to relate well to individuals based on the art of inquiry, trust, integrity, a genuine interest in people, the ability to understand philanthropy and to be financially literate.
  4. The Major Gifts Officer should enjoy new challenges; work effectively independently and within a team.

More than a third of all Alma students take part in at least one performance each year. The College offers majors in theatre, dance and music, but students of all majors may join in productions. The Remick Heritage Center for the Performing Arts is the region’s premiere performing arts facility.
