Men's Tennis Coach

Part-time Position

Chain of Command
The Head Coach reports directly to and is responsible to the Director of Athletics.

Preferable Qualifications
Bachelor's degree, USTA certification, prior experience coaching or playing.

The Head Coach is responsible for:

  1. Developing, directing and maintaining a comprehensive intercollegiate program in compliance with Alma College, MIAA, and NCAA regulations.
  2. Writing, printing, and distributing team manual.
  3. Overall supervision of their respective program, including junior varsity teams, when applicable.
  4. Assigning all duties of Assistant Coaches, when applicable.
  5. Directing the practice periods, with due consideration to the welfare of participants.
  6. The hiring of Assistant Coaches in review with the Director of Athletics, when applicable.
  7. Recruitment of student-athletes in conjunction with the Admissions Office. Attend appropriate on and off campus Admissions events.
  8. The general inventory, upkeep and protection of equipment under the jurisdiction of their program.
  9. Writing an annual report at the end of the season evaluating the program with recommendations for improvement.
  10. Developing and managing an intercollegiate Athletic budget for their sport. Proposed budget must be submitted to AD by December 1st of preceding year.
  11. Scheduling opponents and developing a season schedule by December 1st of preceding year.
  12. Striving to build good sportsmanship as well as developing good public relations at the College and within the community.
  13. Overseeing the safety conditions of the facility or area in which their sport is conducted at all times when the athletes are present.
  14. Promoting their sport by prompt and accurate score reporting and appropriate press releases to local and state media. Coordinating these efforts with the Sports Marketing Manager.
  15. Making all arrangements for team travel and meals.
  16. Coaching individual participants in the skills necessary for excellent achievement in their sport and keeping abreast of new developments, innovative ideas and techniques by attending clinics and workshops. Clinic and Workshop participation must be approved through the normal budgeting process and approved by the AD.
  17. Representing the Alma College Athletic program with leadership and serving as a role model for student-athletes.
  18. Supervising and supporting student-athletes towards satisfactory academic progress and checking on the eligibility of squad members.
  19. Supervising student assistants, statisticians, managers, etc.
  20. Submitting for permanent file, end-of-season report, statistical information to the AD, SMM, MIAA and NCAA (Season record, MIAA standings, equipment inventory, etc.)
  21. Making necessary arrangements for hiring officials and requisitions for payment when necessary.
  22. Supervising the completion of all Athletic forms, league eligibility, NCAA forms, sports information forms and insurance information.
  23. Arranging with the college food service meal scheduling around practice and games, also during Alma College vacation periods and banquets.
  24. Develop a consistent pattern of availability to students and colleagues both on-campus and in-department that permits participation in the department and that is appropriate to the normal working day of the College.
  25. Arranging awards banquet and providing award accommodations.
  26. Arranging on-campus housing for competing athletes during College vacation periods.
  27. Arrange end-of-season meeting with all players for individual evaluations.
  28. Arrange for end-of-Season team meeting to allow for athletes to fill out head-coach evaluations.
