Director of Marketing and Public Relations
Alma College, a Presbyterian-affiliated liberal arts college located in the center of Michigan's lower peninsula, seeks an energetic and experienced leader to serve as its Director of Marketing and Public Relations. The Director of Marketing and Public Relations is responsible for all aspects of the College's marketing and communications. Working with members of the campus community, the director develops, implements, and evaluates marketing and communication plans and strategies to increase the College's local, regional and national visibility and enhance perceptions of the College held by its many constituencies and audiences. The director is responsible for defining the College's key messages and articulating the value of an Alma education, visualizing and producing representations of the key messages, targeting and adjusting the College's messages to its various audiences, and evaluating the marketing and communication plans and strategies, revising them as necessary.
The director should be familiar with the principles of marketing, conversant with the latest research and trends in higher education, and aware of current tools and emerging technologies to market higher education. He or she should understand how to use the Web and Web applications as well as print, radio and television to communicate effectively the College's key messages to its many audiences.
Supervising a full-time staff of five and managing the office budget, the director advises the president, other members of the executive staff, and the campus community on all kinds and types of internal and external communications and communication strategies. The director works with admissions, advancement, and alumni departments to coordinate and develop various print and electronic materials. He or she also chairs the integrated marketing committee and serves on several campus committees.
The ideal candidate will hold a master's degree in communication, marketing or related field and have at least five years' experience working in higher education. The successful candidate will also possess excellent writing and speaking skills. Knowledge of prepress production, media operations, and Web processes expected. Experience working on Mac OS X with Adobe's publication suite software preferred.
