Library - Assistant Professor
Tenure-track position with anticipated start date of April 1, 2005. The successful candidate will be committed to excellent library service and have a strong commitment to liberal arts undergraduate education. Duties will include general and in-depth library reference service on a rotating basis, including evenings and weekends; teaching course-based library instruction sessions in collaboration with faculty members; maintaining faculty liaison relationship to selected departments; staying abreast of current trends in instructional technology and working cooperatively with Information Technology staff to further the use of technology in the classroom; and working with and maintaining library databases and catalogs.
Minimum qualifications are a Masters of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited institution with a second advanced degree preferred; excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work well with faculty, students and colleagues with teaching or library instruction experience preferred; strong commitment to academic research and information literacy; exemplary written and oral communication skills; and excellent information technology skills.
Candidates should enjoy teaching a wide variety of undergraduate courses and be commited to excellence in teaching. Other responsibilities include active scholarship, supervising undergraduate research, and service to the campus community. Our faculty has a deep commitment to quality undergraduate liberal arts education, including student development in a residential setting, and interdisciplinary, intercultural, and international education. Full-time teaching load is 6 courses per year; salaries, benefits, and support for professional development are competitive.
