The Strosacker lab's large-scale printer makes it easy to print professional-quality posters for presentations. While many document creation and layout programs exist that can do the job well (Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, PageMaker or Photoshop, Microsoft Word and Quark), Microsoft Powerpoint provides a quick, easy-to-use interface that allows you to design your poster in your office, save it to a removable medium or a network share, and print without losing the integrated use of tables in Word or charts in Excel.
Avoid complication with a template
Printing large-scale slides can be a complicated process; the page, paper and printer settings need to be exact in order to ensure that your poster ends up as you expected it. In order to help with this process, the Strosacker lab has created templates for use with PowerPoint. If you will frequently use this template, open it with PowerPoint and choose File > Save As... in the dialog menu save the presentation as a Design Template in your Microsoft Office > Templates > "My Templates" folder (Click here for a screenshot of this process).
| Template | Matte | Glossy |
|---|---|---|
| Poster Template - 36" Square | $27 | $36 |
| Poster Template - 48" x 36" | $36 | $48 |
| PowerPoint Poster Template - 44" Square | $40 | $54 |
| PowerPoint Poster Template - 48" x 44" | $44 | $58 |
If you have need of poster size that does not exist, please contact Andrew Bare at bare@alma.edu
These poster templates are designed for academic presentations. Designing posters for other uses may easier in programs such as Adobe InDesign, available in the Strosacker lab. Posters can be printed from image files, Office documents, Portable Document Format (PDF), and HTML pages.
Printing the poster
Once your poster is ready, save your presentation to a CD, USB drive, Othello share or other removable storage.
Costs
Printing posters and large-scale photographs is a very expensive process. In order to ensure that the Strosacker lab can provide printing services in the future, print jobs will be charged at $3/sq. ft. for matte paper and $4/sq. ft. for photo printing and printing on photo gloss paper.
