Instructional Technology

By-appointment services:

An Instructional Technologist is available to help you develop a plan for incorporating digital technology into your class to further prepare students for working in a technology-based world.  Whether you need assistance in learning the basics to a program like PowerPoint, Photoshop, or iMovie, or even advanced programs like Final Cut Pro and Flash, an Instructional Technologist can assist you with any work-in-progress or help you develop materials for your class from scratch.  Email bare@alma.edu for an appointment.  Some ideas:

  • Brainstorm with an Instructional Technologist about how to best incorporate digital technology into your teaching itinerary.
  • Learn how to utlilize PowerPoint to enhance classroom lectures without it dominating them.
  • Want to create a Tutorial or Instructional Video to highlight information in a course (i.e. a video of images from WWII set to music for use in a History course)?  Meet with an instructional technologist and learn how to use video to enhance learning for visual learners.
  • Discover Moodle, the learning management software that is replacing Blackboard, and learn how to utilize online forums to maximize class participation and collaborative learning outside of regular class time.
  • Develop Digital Learning Objects with an Instructional Technologist and Alma College students in order to teach a specific lesson in a new, fun, and engaging way while also helping students gain necessary technology skills they can use upon graduation.
  • Create a Web Presence for Your Department. Armed with your ideas, we can do the heavy lifting in getting information about your department to students—past, present and future.
  • Software Lessons. The college owns professional-grade audio, video, animation, publishing and web software, and more used in the classroom and workplace. Make an appointment to learn how to make it work for you.

Our Instructional Technologist is here to help you enhance teaching and learning in your class through technology.  Please do not hesitate to call or email to meet and discuss any ideas you may have on enhancing your class through digital media.  Even if you have never used any digital media technology before, our Instructional Technologist can work with you and your ideas to create materials to enhance your class.
