Every student, staff and faculty member at Alma College has up to 200 Megabytes of space on the college's network storage server, othello.alma.edu. Your web share can hold files you want others to access, a personal drop-box, even host your own webpage.
Connecting to Othello
Apple Macintosh users, or anyone who can access an Apple's share point, can connect directly to Othello, and even put a secure alias for it in your dock.
Other users must connect to Othello in a web browser, at http://othello.alma.edu/ftp/.
Your web site
Your website is all of the files in the Sites
folder of your
network space. To view your website from anywhere in the world, direct your
web browser to one of the following:
- http://faculty-staffpages.alma.edu/~<username>
Where <username> is the first the part of your email address before @alma.edu
.
Your public folder
Your public folder is a space you can use to make files available to other network users. Anyone able to connect to your share can see, open and copy the files there, but they cannot delete or change them.
Your drop box
Your drop box is the opposite of a public folder. Others can put files there, but cannot see the folders contents or get anything out, only you can.
