Accreditation and State Authorization. Alma College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools. The Michigan Department of Education approves Alma programs for certification of elementary and secondary teachers. Approval of Alma programs is also given by the American Chemical Society Committee on Professional Training, the National Association of Schools of Music and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education.

Campus Crime. Alma College abides by the Student Right-to-Know, the Campus Security Act of 1990 and the Higher Education Act Reauthorization of 2008. The College makes information concerning campus crime statistics available in printed form to the campus community each year. This information is also available to prospective students upon request.

Credit Balances. Title IV credit balances will be refunded to students upon written request after all aid has disbursed to the student account and a $0.00 balance is shown.
Disbursements of financial aid are typically made in two equal installments at the beginning of each semester shortly after the end of drop/add week.
Emergency Procedures. Alma College has adopted an Emergency Response Plan, revised in January 2008, that provides contingency procedures for Alma College administrators, staff, faculty and students in the event of a campus emergency. The College also has implemented an Emergency Notification System that allows the College to send immediate, time-sensitive voice and text notifications to students, faculty and staff in the event of a campus emergency. Students, faculty and staff can update their emergency contact information via the College's Web portal.

Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). Annually, Alma College informs students of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, as amended. This act, as amended, is a federal law which states that (1) a written institutional policy must be established; and (2) a statement of adopted procedures covering the privacy rights of students be made available.
FERPA requires institutions to maintain the confidentiality of student education records law and obtain written consent from a student prior to releasing information from the student's education record to most sources outside the university. It is allowable for a school to release directory information which includes name, address, E-mail address, phone number, date and place of birth, major field of study, dates of attendance, degrees and awards, cumulative hours, participation in officially recognized sports, and weight and height of athletes.
As an enrolled student, you have the right to restrict the release of directory information. To restrict the release of directory information contact the Registrar's Office.

Financial Information. The College's annual financial report is available for review by prospective students, alumni and the public upon request at the library's reserve desk.
Merit Based Gift Aid. Eligibility and awarding information for each type of award can be found here.
Need-Based Gift Aid. Federal, State, and Institutional need-based gift aid eligibility is primarily based on the information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Nondiscrimination Statement. Alma College's nondiscrimination policy includes age, color, creed, gender, national origin, physical ability, race, religion and sexual orientation.
Retention. For the past five years, the fall-to-fall retention rate from first-year to second-year students has averaged 79 percent. The fall-to-fall retention rate for all freshmen, sophomores and juniors has met or exceeded 86 percent for each of the past five years. The six-year degree completion rate for the last five graduating classes has exceeded 70 percent. The five-year rate for the class of 2006 was 70 percent.
Students with Disabilities. Alma College is committed to complying with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 by providing access to campus facilities and reasonable accommodations in programs, services and classroom activities. Students with disabilities are responsible for ensuring that the College is aware of disabilities that require accommodations by contacting the Academic and Career Planning office.
