Leaders in the Making

Leaders in Training

Alma College students take part in the College's leadership training at Ghost Ranch, New Mexico

Leadership opportunities abound at Alma College. On the field, through the Greek system, in the classroom, and by way of student organizations, Alma students hone their leadership skills. What makes a good leader? The ability to adapt to and lead change. Living responsibly and purposely. Serving generously. The Center for Responsible Leadership, an emerging hallmark program at Alma, prepares ethical leaders who have the ability to initiate and manage change and focus on long-term decision-making over short-term gain. Components include a Leadership Fellows program, speaker series, leaders-in-residence, service opportunities, seminars and workshops. Another program, The Posey Global Leadership Initiative, attempts to develop leadership skills through international internships. Best of all: You can put your leadership skills to work on a daily basis. As April LaCroix, class of 2005, once said: "At some schools, you can learn how to change the world. Or, you can go to Alma and start doing it while you're here."

Students learn important leadership principles from internationally recognized speakers like Madeleine Albright and Vicente Fox and by participating in international study opportunities through inventive programs like the Center for Responsible Leadership and the Posey Global Leadership Fellows Program.
