POEs, which Stand for ...

Pre-med student receives instruction in proper procedure for drawing blood from a patient.

Sure, Alma promotes itself as a nationally recognized private liberal arts college. And we are. But check out our diverse academic and pre-professional programs: Exercise and health science. Pre-law. Pre-med. Psychology. The sciences. Teacher education. New media studies. Business administration. Religious studies. Music. And there's much more. But if you're looking for something different, something unique, something you can't find anyplace else, investigate our POEs. That's an Alma acronym for Programs of Emphasis. With the assistance of a faculty advisor, students may design their own area of concentration to meet specific educational or career goals. In recent years, students have graduated with POEs in such fields as arts management, archaeology and anthropology, personnel administration, and pre-gerontology. And Alma's academic preparation yields big results: More than 96 percent of our graduates typically enter graduate or professional schools or find employment in their field within six months of graduation.

The Alma College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team claimed its sixth consecutive regional championship at the SIFE USA Regional Competition in March 2007. The competition awards the SIFE teams that are most effective in teaching the principals of market economics through outreach projects in their communities.
